San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to Present Inaugural “Empresario for Equity” Award to Latina Hollywood Film Composer and Songwriter Germaine Franco at the 89th Annual Gala

SAN ANTONIO (January 25, 2018) – Today, the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce announced that Texan-Latina composer and songwriter Germaine Franco will be presented the inaugural “Empresario for Equity” award during their 89th Annual Gala on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Henry B. Franco specifically will be honored for being an example of equitable representation of Latinos in Hollywood.

“I’m thrilled that this year’s San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce “Empresario for Equity” honoree is Germaine Franco, a film composer and songwriter who worked on this year’s Oscar-nominated film Coco,” said Erika Prosper Nirenberg, who will officially be welcomed as the Hispanic Chamber’s 2018 Chairwoman at the event.

“As the first Latina composer invited to be a member of the Academy of Arts and Science, Franco is a trailblazer that truly showcases the impact of having Latino representation in various industries, shown through her work on the music for various Hollywood films,” added Prosper Nirenberg.

El Paso, Texas native Franco is a co-song producer, arranger and orchestrator of the Academy Award-nominated song of Coco’s “Remember Me” by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, as well as being co-writer for Coco’s “Un Poco Loco,” which will be featured in an original dance performance by the Ballet San Antonio at the event.

I Love You, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, X-Men: The Last Stand, among others.

“For 89 years, the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has been a leader in generating a culture of learning and entrepreneurship among San Antonio’s youth, businesses, and workforce,” said Ramiro A. Cavazos, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s President and CEO. “It is this mission that we will honor at the gala, as we celebrate the success and contributions that Latinos have made in the United States to ensure equitable representation.”

Over 1,800 leaders, advocates, and champions of the San Antonio business community are expected to attend the event to welcome Prosper Nirenberg, H-E-B Director of Consumer Insights and First Lady of San Antonio as Chairwoman, celebrate the accomplishments of outgoing 2017 Chairman Dr. Esteban López and the 2017 Board of Directors, as well as witness Franco receive the award.
