Consumer Confidence in U.S. Held Close to Six-Month High Last Week

Consumer comfort last week held close to a six-month high as U.S. households became less pessimistic about the state of the economy. Cheaper fuel and a budding housing recovery are underpinning consumer confidence. While superstorm Sandy may darken spirits this week following widespread power outages, flooding and at least 50 deaths along the East Coast, the drop will probably prove temporary as Americans’ views of the economy become less downbeat.
