Housing Price Index Rises

Single-family home prices in the U.S. rose in August, the latest sign that the housing market is on the mend. The Standard & Poor’s Case Shiller composite index of 20 metro areas gained 0.9%, in line with economists’ forecasts. This was the seventh straight month of increases, extending the longest continuous string of gains since home prices rose as a result of a home buyer tax credit in 2009 and 2010.
