Service Sector Picks Up in September

The pace of growth in the vast U.S. services sector picked up in September as new orders accelerated. The Institute for Supply Management reported its services index rose to 55.1 from 53.7 in August, surpassing economists’ forecasts for a slight decrease to 53.2. U.S. Companies Added 162,000 Workers to Payrolls

Employment in the U.S. nonfarm private business sector increased by 162,000 from August to September, on a seasonally adjusted basis.
