In Memoriam: Dr. Alfonso “Chico” Chiscano
Today, San Antonio mourns the loss of a true legend in our community Dr. Alfonso “Chico” Chiscano. A true advocate of our community at the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
For the past 30 years, Dr. Chiscano developed our relations with our sister cities in the Canary Islands. He supported our mission to be a lead resource for the Hispanic market as shown by the exchanges in education, culture, and sustainable development that occurred during his involvement.
Alfonso Chiscano was honored at the 50th Anniversary Sister Cities as Distinguished Volunteers for their involvement in Sister Cities activities and significant efforts to building cross-cultural international partnerships.
Dr. Chiscano participated in more than five of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s international trade missions to Spain and the Canary Islands and contributed his time to help execute each one.He has also helped organize and host hundreds of international groups and dignitaries visiting San Antonio, including a huge celebration he led during San Antonio’s Tricentennial for the Canary Island founders of our great city San Antonio. Due to his involvement and achievements, in 2014, the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce honored Dr. Chiscano with our Lifetime Achievement Award at the Annual Business Awards Dinner.
In the Canary Islands, he has a street named after him because of the great work that he has done. This is just another way that communities attribute development, friendship, and growth to his life’s work.
Dr. Chiscano was beloved by many and his loss will be felt for years to come.
Thank you, Chico, for your service to our city and to sparking international ties and partnerships. You will be sorely missed.
