Re:       Funding Support for US 281/Loop 1604 Corridor

Dear MPO Transportation Policy Board:

Much of our city’s economic growth and sustainability as well as our quality of life depend upon the efficient flow of traffic across our community.  As San Antonians, we are all well aware of the congestion and delays in the US 281/ Loop 1604 corridors and believe that critical interchange must receive its share of funding to help relieve the transportation stress to both businesses and residents.

The San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce supports SAMCo’s resolution to utilize $146.8 million in additional funding resulting from various TxDOT efficiencies to build four additional non-toll lanes along Loop 1604 (Bandera Road to Potranco Road) and along US 281 (Loop 1604 interchange to just north of Stone Oak) with transit priority lanes.  We believe that the proposed plan will provide congestion relief, improve safety, enhance transit services, and encourage economic development.

As a chamber, we stand together in support of the proposed SAMCo plan which was developed through the cooperative efforts of the Texas Department of Transportation, Bexar County, the City of San Antonio, VIA Metropolitan Transit, the Alamo RMA, and others.

We strongly encourage and respectfully request that the MPO Transportation Policy Board formally approve the funding plan at your June 25, 2012 meeting. Thank you in advance for your consideration to move San Antonio forward and provide our city with the ability to continue its progress towards a stronger economy and vibrant quality of life.
