The goal of Sensible Pay for SA is to amend the City of San Antonio’s Charter to provide annual salaries for City Council members and the mayor – without raising taxes or increasing the city budget. Under the existing City Charter, approved in 1951, City Council members are paid $20 per meeting with a maximum of $1,040 per year. This pay scale was established when the City Council acted as a part-time governmental body. As San Antonio has grown, the issues and demands on the City Council and mayor’s time have increased and it is time to compensate them accordingly – bringing them in line with other major cities in Texas.
