Position:

Assistant Vice President of Events and Communications

 

Description:

San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce seeks a dynamic self-starter to assist in the marketing, communications and special event efforts. This position is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of marketing, communications, and all aspects of event planning while working for a leading nonprofit organization.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Update and maintain San Antonio Hispanic Chamber’s social media presence, including daily monitoring, posting, scheduling and reporting Facebook updates
  • Assist in planning, writing and managing e-blasts and e-newsletters
  • Assist in drafting, distributing and pitching news releases, media alerts and other stories
  • Assist in management of editorial and event calendars
  • Design flyers, graphics, e-vites and other marketing material
  • Update the organization’s website regularly
  • Create comprehensive database of targeted businesses and community organizations
  • Collaborate with staff on new ideas, procedures, and tools for marketing and events
  • Assist in all logistical planning of special events and projects, including but not limited to venue selection, registering of guests, managing staff at event, etc.
  • Assist membership department with membership events (mixers, meet & greets, ribbon cuttings, etc.)
  • Assist in filing and organizing all event files
  • Report to VP of Communications and VP of Special Events on a regular basis regarding all job duties

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space
  • Completed or working toward a college degree (junior level and up), preferably

in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing/Communications, Advertising or Public

Relations)

  • Previous internship or related experience in marketing, communications, or event management a plus
  • Understanding of the basic principles of public relations, marketing, and/or event planning
  • Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel). Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop highly desire
  • Knowledge of HTML, website content management and graphic design a plus
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with press, community leaders, and various vendors
  • Ability to work well independently, and within a team
  • Excellent customer skills and problem solving skills desired
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
  • Commitment to cultural sensitivity and respect for differences
  • Commitment to the continuous improvement of service quality and the organization’s mission

 

Start Date:

Position open until filled

 

Hours:

Full Time (40 hours/week)

 

Compensation:

This is an unpaid internship
