San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce members Shirley Gonzales, Owner of Bill’s Pawn Shop, and Grace Rodriguez-Elliot (pictured on the left), Vice President and Market Manager of the West Commerce Broadway Bank, are teaming up to help Eloise Gonzales realize her dream – a new 10,000 square-foot Bill’s Pawn Shop right next to its current location at 105 S Zarzamora.
Eloise, along with her husband of 42 years Henry Gonzales, founded Bill’s Pawn Shop in 1960. The Gonzales family has operated their business in the same location for over 52 years.
Shirley, of Bill’s Pawn Shop, says the inspiration for the project was based on family pride, and the confidence that the San Antonio community could support their $1.6 Million dollar investment.
Grace Rodriguez-Elliott of Broadway Bank, recalls the pride that Shirley shared for her family’s project and the level of effort and commitment she undertook in completing every detail of the loan process. While Shirley is quick to reference the many complex banking requirements she faced, she praises Grace and her lending team at Broadway Bank, Eddie Vellescas, Scott Matlock and Lyn Walsdorf, for advocating strongly for her and her family’s vision.
The loan has been approved, construction has begun and the iconic Bill’s Pawn Shop will soon reflect a brighter image of sound economic redevelopment at the corner of Zarzamora and Commerce Street. The realization of Shirley and her family’s goal reflects what three hard working Hispanic Chamber members can accomplish for themselves, their family and the cherished Prospect Hill Community.
