Partnership Yields Big Dividends For Local Students

As students are just starting to celebrate their summer vacation, Broadway Bank and the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce begin their strategy to top their previous year collection numbers for the annual Communities In Schools Stuff The Bus School Supply Drive. In 2014, the partnership yielded 2,065 pounds of school supplies and $5,547 in monetary donations for local children thanks to generous customers of Broadway Bank’s 40 banking centers and Hispanic Chamber of Commerce members. The mounds of school supplies are all collected for a grand finale event at Broadway Bank headquarters in August.

“Just as young children are excited to head back to school in the fall with their new school supplies, here at Broadway Bank we get really excited when we begin our annual collection drive with our great partner, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and of course, Communities In Schools. We leverage our banking centers and their generous customers to collect supplies,” said Jeannette Westbrook Flores, Broadway Bank senior vice president, community reinvestment department.

Westbrook also oversees Care Corps, Broadway Bank’s community service arm with nearly 60 percent of the bank’s employees spanning out to benefit more than 100 charitable projects every year. In 2014, Care Corps volunteers spent 12,856 hours to build up the projects that make a difference at a dollar value of nearly $300,000.

Non-profits like CIS Stuff The Bus that support education are part of a focused initiative spearheaded by the Broadway Bank community reinvestment department to provide students from low-income homes with the tools and assistance they need to succeed in school and beyond. Broadway Bank donated more than $650,000 to build up these very same non-profits where Care Corps volunteers give of their time and talent, leveraging the beneficial impact on low-income families in the bank’s service area.
