Mr. Louis Escareño was honored with the 2019 Chabad Distinguished Community Service Award on Tuesday, March 19, 2019.
Born and raised on San Antonio’s West Side, Louis Escareño attended public schools and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master’s degree from the John F. Kennedy School at Harvard, and a Doctorate in Jurisprudence from the University of Houston.
Mr. Escareño’s private law practice includes a focus on international trade, public policy advocacy, public affairs and government relations. Since 1997, Mr. Escareño has provided legal representation to UETA, the largest duty-free chain of stores in North America.
In addition to his great academic and professional accomplishments, Louis is most beloved as a person of great humility that actively works to improve the lives of others, typically in very quiet ways. He provides free legal counsel to immigrants who can otherwise not afford it. He is very often the emissary between the Latino-American and Jewish-American communities, both in San Antonio and at a national level. He has visited Israel over seventeen times, and regularly serves as a trusted link between Israeli and US businesses.
Louis is a true bridge-builder and a real Mentsch.
