Hispanic Chamber to Feature Four Trailblazing Latinas during First of its Kind Event
In line with 2018 San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s Chairwoman Erika Prosper Nirenberg’s key message: “Latinos are Leaders,” which makes a statement regarding how the Hispanic community has been at the forefront of economic, political and cultural growth for our city, state and country, the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SAHCC) is proud to announce a first of its kind event showcasing Latinas who were the first in their respective industries called “Latinas are Leaders,” a luncheon that will be held at the Embassy Suites Riverwalk Downtown on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
During this luncheon, we will honor four trailblazing women during a panel in which they will tell us their experiences on breaking barriers during the same week as “Women’s Equality Day,” (August 26), which commemorates the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, granting women the right to vote.
The women being featured include:
-Shalla Santos Sluyter, the first Latina Deputy Parliamentarian for the Texas House of Representatives
-Olga Custodio, the first Latina U.S. Military and Commercial Pilot
-Martha Tijerina, the first Latina reporter and anchor on Spanish-language television
-Justice Eva Guzman, the first Latina Supreme Court of Texas Justice and first Latina elected to state-wide office in Texas.
The panel will be moderated by Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson, President of Texas A&M University-San Antonio with a special introduction by San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg.
Individual tickets for this event are $45 for Hispanic Chamber members and $55 for future members. Sponsorships, which include tables of 10, may also be purchased.
