2016 Cybersecurity Conference Recap

On Tuesday, June 28, 2016 the Hispanic Chamber partnered with the United States Chamber of Commerce, the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, and the Texas Assocation of Business to host the 2016 Cybersecurity Conference at the Embassy Suites Riverwalk Hotel.

Suzanne Spaulding, Under Secretary, National Protection and Programs Directorate for the Department of Homeland Security, served as the morning Keynote Speaker. Attendees also heard from Justin Allbritton, Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Steve Gemperle, Special Agent for the U.S. Secret Service, about law enforcement on cyber attacks and national security threats.

Congressman Will Hurd provided important remarks about increasing the amount of American students entering the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The Hispanic Chamber fully supports this issue through our advocacy work and our Annual CORE4 STEM Program, coming up this November.

The panel “Cybersecurity in the Financial Services Industry” discussed policies and procedures that the financial industry has developed at the strategic and operational level to combat cyber attacks and criminal activity. Panelists include: Dave McDermitt, Chief Information Security Officer and Chief Privacy Officer, USAA; Murray Washington, Senior Vice President, Technology Risk Management, BITS; Delfim Martins, Global Head of Security Operations Center, Citi; and John South, Senior Director, FS-ISAC. ‪
