Keynote Speaker

𝗠𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 (𝗥𝗲𝘁.) 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘀

Angela “Angie” Salinas, Major General U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.), joined Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas as the Chief Executive Officer in July 2015 and is a Lifetime Member of Girl Scouts. A woman of many firsts, Salinas served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 39 years and made history as the first Latina selected and promoted to its general officer ranks. At the time of her retirement in September 2013, she was the senior ranking woman and the senior Hispanic in the Corps.

    A Girl Scout alumna and trailblazer, Salinas is a role model to girls and women seeking to break through the glass ceiling. She commanded at every level in Corps, from lieutenant to general, serving as the first woman in multiple assignments that included commanding general, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego/Western Recruiting Region, assistant chief of staff for plans and policy of a major combatant organization, and command of a recruiting district. Her many military decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal and the Navy Distinguished Service Medal, the latter of which she received upon retirement.


    Salinas’ accolades extend past her military experience, including the U.S. Hispanic Leadership Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award, the Women’s International Center’s Living Legacy Award, and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s Latinas in Service Award. She was named a Top Latino Leader by the National Diversity Council and a Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce Woman of Distinction. She has been inducted into the U.S. Veterans Hall of Fame, Hispanic Women in Leadership Hall of Fame, and the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame. She is a recipient of the NCAA Legacy Award, the American Latino Influencer Valor Award, and the American Spirit Award Medallion from the National WWII Museum. She has received the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Tribute to Women Business Leaders Hope Award, as well as the San Antonio Business Journal Women’s Leadership Award. Salinas has been named one of 15 Phenomenal Women by Latina Magazine and one of six Power Latinas by

    A graduate of the Masters Leadership Program San Antonio, she is a member of Excel Beyond the Bell, Up Partnership, the National Association of Women’s Business Owners, and The Nonprofit Council. She serves on the Southwest Research Institute Advisory Trustees, the San Antonio Area Foundation-Women and Girls Development Fund, the Advisory Council for the American Latino Veterans Association, and on the Board of Directors for GPM Life, Blues Skies of Texas, Young Marines, and the Lift Fund.


    A native of Alice, Texas, she holds a master’s degree from the Naval War College and a bachelor’s degree from Dominican University of California. She was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws from Dominican University in 2015 and named a Distinguished Alumnus in 2016.

Brenda Macis

Brenda Macias serves as Director of Community Empowerment at Univision 41 San Antonio and co-host of Univision Contigo en la Comunidad. With over 22 years in Spanish-language media as a former news anchor and reporter, she brings deep insight into community needs from a journalistic perspective.


Brenda collaborates with local nonprofits to drive meaningful impact while representing Univision through its community platform, Univision Contigo. Her work has earned six Lone Star Emmys and two National Telly Awards.

    Following a breast cancer diagnosis in 2022, Brenda became an advocate for early detection, sharing her experience to educate and empower others. She also serves as a spokesperson for Methodist Healthcare’s award-winning campaign, Sabías Que.


    Originally from Tijuana, Baja California, Brenda grew up bilingual and remains passionate about serving her community alongside her Univision family. She prioritizes health and enjoys life with her 14-year-old son, Alex and 25-year-old daughter, Paola.

Inspire: Woman Owned Business Award

The Women-Owned Business Award recognizes a San Antonio area woman business owner who has demonstrated excellence in operating, growing, and leading her business. Emphasis is placed on resiliency and positively navigating the on-going effects of the pandemic as a business leader.

Impact: The Legacy & Merit Award

The Legacy & Merit Award recognizes a San Antonio area woman entrepreneur who has made outstanding contributions to the status of women in business throughout her career in business and the community. Emphasis is placed on established accomplishments and enduring efforts within business leadership and community partnerships.

Ignite: Rising Star Award

The Rising Star Award recognizes an up-and-coming professional woman in the San Antonio community who exhibits exceptional talent and a promising future in her field. Emphasis is placed on recent accomplishments, promotions and/or demonstration of leadership and community service.

Service Award

The Service Award recognizes a San Antonio area woman who has volunteered her time and effort to better improving the lives of women, and goes above and beyond the call of duty to serve her community in mind and spirit.

Advocacy Award

The Advocacy Award recognizes a San Antonio area woman who has offered her time and voice as a proponent of public and business issues and encourages women to advocate for the needs and policies in their community.
